The latest numbers from the Bureau of Stats show our unemployment rate dropped slightly to 4% in May, with 40,000 people finding jobs – many of which were full-time… The ABS said the drop could, in part, be down to the fact that there was an unusually high number of unemployed people in April, and some of them have now found work. But analysts reckon we’re likely to see the unemployment rate inching higher again in the coming months with economic growth sluggish… The Reserve Bank is watching closely because our national jobs data is a key economic indicator, as the experts like to say…. The central bank’s board meets next week to decide whether to shift or hold interest rates at 4.35% – we’ll find out what they decide at 2.30pm on Tuesday.
