US gymnastics superstar Simone Biles was beaming last night as she collected a bronze medal. For the balance beam. See what we did there? Thankfully, her routine was a lot better than that gag… Going into the Tokyo Olympics with expectations of 6 gold medals, Biles pulled out as she struggled with the ‘twisties’ – a mental block left her physically incapable of doing the incredible flips and turns she is renowned for. And after days of ‘will she, won’t she’, Biles stepped up to the beam last night to deliver what some commentators say was one of the most heartening moments of the Games. “I was just doing this for me,” she said after the event. And after a tumultuous Olympic Games, she has a lot of questions about what happened to her – but says she realises now that her “mental and physical health is better than any medal.”
