It will be legal for terminally ill people in NSW to choose to end their lives with the assistance of medical professionals after the state parliament passed legislation yesterday. It’s been 20 years since voluntary assisted dying laws were first debated, and yesterday, NSW became the last state in the country to approve the laws. Government and Labor MPs were granted a conscience vote, and both Premier Dominic Perrottet and Labor Leader Chris Minns voted against the scheme that could take up to 18 months to implement. Yesterday, PM Morrison said he wouldn’t allow the Northern Territory and ACT a voteon legalising voluntary assisted dying there, but a new Labor Government is thinking about a conscience vote in the Federal Parliament to overturn that position. #SquizShortcut
