Aussie tennis star Nick Kyrgios has been charged with one count of common assault. It’s concerning an incident with his former partner Chiara Passari – the Canberra Times says Kyrgios grabbed her. “It’s in the context of a domestic relationship,” Kyrios’s barrister Jason Moffett said last night. “The nature of the allegation is serious and Mr Kyrgios takes the allegation very seriously. Given the matter is before the court … he doesn’t have a comment at this stage, but in the fullness of time we’ll issue a media release.” Kyrgios and Passari had a stormy relationship that was well-documented on social media. They split last year, and he is with his new partner Costeen Hatzi in the UK. The Association of Tennis Professionals said it was aware of the case, “but as legal proceedings are ongoing, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.” Kyrgios is scheduled to appear in court in Canberra on 2 August. He plays Chile’s Cristian Garin in the Wimbledon quarter-final tonight.
