Murugappans issued temporary visas

Three members of the Sri Lankan Tamil family have been issued 3-month bridging visas that will allow them to work and access health and education services. The youngest family member, 4yo Tharnicaa, was not granted a visa. There are plenty of questions about why that was the case, but its effect is clear: the family must stay in Perth. Tharnicaa is recovering from a recent hospital stay, and she’s the subject of a long legal battle to stay in Oz. Parents Nades and Priya – who came to Australia by boat separately in 2012 and 2014 – settled in the central Queensland town of Biloela as their refugee claims were assessed. That’s where they married and had their 2 daughters. But they were knocked back in 2018 and have been fighting to stay in Oz ever since.
