The never-ending mouse plague’s Aussie tour

Sorry Western Aussies… You’re set for a mouse plague in a similar vein as the one that has ravaged eastern Oz with reports the little critters are damaging wheat crops. Grains Industry Association’s Michael Lamond says he expects the entire grain belt – which is set for a bumper harvest – to be affected. And because mouse plagues are so rare in the west, he said farmers “lacked awareness on how to tackle it”. Meanwhile, farmers in central Queensland say they’re on the “cusp” of one thanks to warm conditions. There are fears that crops will be ruined if the critters aren’t brought under control in the next few weeks. And in areas of NSW that have been dealing with millions of mice since spring last year, they’re getting ready for Mouse Plague – The Sequel… Experts say that winter hasn’t been cold enough to kill ’em off, so a second devastating cycle could be on the way. Ugh… #SquizShortcut
