Speilberg sets his sights on streaming

As if you didn’t have enough to watch on the box, legendary film director Steven Spielberg’s production company Amblin Partners has inked a deal with Netflix to produce at least 2 feature films for the streaming giant every year. The acclaimed director had previously expressed scepticism about the Netflix model but now says “I want people to find their entertainment in any form or fashion that suits them. Big screen, small screen – what really matters to me is a great story, and everyone should have access to great stories.” It isn’t the first time the 2 companies have joined forces – Oscars darling The Trial of the Chicago 7 was theirs. Speilberg’s latest project – an adaptation of West Side Story due to be released later this year – won’t fall under the deal, but Amblin and Netflix are currently working on a musical drama about its musical composer, the legendary Leonard Bernstein. It’s set to star Bradley Cooper and Carey Mulligan.
