British actor Dennis Waterman – best known for playing bodyguard Terry McCann in the 80s show Minderhas died at 74yo. Born in London as the youngest of 9 kids, Waterman started out as a child actor in the 1960s before becoming a household name, playing George Carter in 70s police drama The Sweeney. It was there that he found his footing as a ‘tough guy’ leading man, going on to play “cheeky chappie, everybody’s mate” Terry McCann in Minder and, in more recent times, retired police officer Gerry Standing in New Tricks. Waterman also sang the theme songs for 4 of his shows, including this hit. He was married 4 times and criticised after admitting to hitting his 2nd wife, actress Rula Lenska. His New Tricks co-star Reece Shearsmith led the tributes, saying “he made me the best cups of tea”.
