A sorry battle with Delta

Both NSW and Victoria recorded their worst days for new local cases yesterday with the Delta variant of the coronavirus digging in. There were 124 new cases in NSW – Premier Gladys Berejiklian says that the number will continue to rise as Victoria (26) and South Oz (2) battle to limit the spread. With 13 million people in lockdown, PM Scott Morrison has faced growing pressure to apologise for vaccination program failures, and yesterday he did. “I’m certainly sorry that we haven’t been able to achieve the marks that we had hoped for at the beginning of this year,” he said. Moving on, he says more pharmacies will take part in the rollout of the AstraZeneca vaccine, and people under 40yo should consult with their doctor before a jab. Meanwhile, reports in the Daily Telegraph say children aged 12 to 16yo have been given the green light to get the Pfizer vaccine (paywall) under new advice from the Therapeutic Goods Administration set to be announced today.
