Meanwhile in Coronavirus news…

• Queensland’s southeast joined the cool kids in lockdown on Saturday afternoon with officials hoping to get on top of a Delta variant “incursion”. There are now 18 cases linked to the outbreak that’s the state’s biggest in a year. Brissie, the Goldie, the Sunshine Coast and west to Ispwich are due to shake off lockdown tomorrow arvo, but reports predict an extension.

• As 453 new local cases were added to NSW’s tally over the weekend, Premier Gladys Berejiklian says August is the month for the state’s residents to get vaccinated. Administering 500,000 shots a week is a must so “we have options as to how we can ease restrictions,” she said yesterday. NSW is behind Tassie, Victoria, South Oz, the ACT and Top End when it comes to vaccination rates.

• Berejiklian isn’t the only one with vaccination on her mind. Our federal, state and territory governments have agreed “in principle” to a vaccination target plan that would see fewer lockdowns when 70% of Aussies receive their jabs and borders reopening at 80%. Yesterday’s official figures say 19.1% of those over 16yo have had 2 shots, and 41.4% have had one dose.
