Vaccination rates get a move on

More than 10 million Aussies have had at least one shot of a COVID vaccine as the pace of the rollout picks up. Yesterday, Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt said Australia hit a record number of jabs in a single day on Monday when 279,465 were administered. That’s about 200 shots a minute, Hunt helpfully offered… Young people are being prioritised by officials in hotspots like Sydney’s western suburbs. There’s a reason for that: yesterday, NSW recorded 452 new local cases, and 75% were aged under 40yo. Also on the state’s vaccination priority list: teachers and staff as more school-age kids test positive to the contagious Delta strain. But it’s not all about NSW: 17 new local cases were recorded in the ACT, and 24 new local cases in Victoria yesterday. And across the ditch, New Zealand’s first local case in 6 months was confirmed in Auckland yesterday. Congrats go to PM Jacinda Ardern, who recorded a world record time for calling a nationwide lockdown.
