Three Minute Squiz with
Larissa Huntington
Larissa helps write the Squiz Today and Shortcuts newsletters, and co-hosts both podcasts at the fun end of the week. She’s a mum of 2 teenage boys, a mad-keen baker, an avid reader and she’s handy with a tennis racquet.

How and where do you Squiz?
I listen to the pod on my morning walk and read the newsletter over brekkie with a coffee. The newsletter has lots of gems that we often can’t fit in or frame the same way in the pod - and there’s links if you want to dive deeper into a story.
What keeps you busy?
Keeping up with a wide diet of news/culture and working out how to distill it in a useful way for Squizers. Also, running kids around to sport on weekends.
What do you like to do in your down time?
We love having family and friends over on weekends. We have a pizza oven and a smoker in the backyard - we’re feeders. If I have unchecked hours, I’ll bake, or read. We also love getting out to our property in Mudgee, NSW. I’m learning how to garden; not very successfully so far.
Give us 4 people (living or dead) at your ultimate dinner party?
Nigella Lawson, Richard Osman, Celia Pacquola, Pip Williams
What’s something you’ve seen/read/listened to recently that you’d recommend?
On TV I really enjoyed Dog Park on ABC iView, and Colin from Accounts S3. The last book I adored was Still Life by Sarah Winman. And the last movie I couldn’t stop yapping about (still am) is Project Hail Mary.
What’s been in your social feeds lately?
The Deni Dictionary, Nara Smith, clips from Derry Girls and Ted Lasso, Erling Haaland, Connor Storrie, Ashe singing with Benson Boone
What do you consider to be an overrated virtue?
Being early. It’s wasted minutes. I consider myself to be a time maximiser (which drives my husband nuts).
What would you say is the most overlooked news story Aussies should pay attention to?
The lack of phone/network coverage in rural areas. It leaves people isolated and vulnerable.
What’s one thing you would tell your younger self?
Always buy travel insurance.
