Boxing genes, sorting sponsors, and Jarvo 69
The grandson of boxing legend Muhammad Ali won his first pro fight yesterday. “I’m a believer in genes,” said legendary fight promoter Bob Arum of 21yo Nico Ali Walsh’s prospects.
If we’ve learned anything from the new season of Ted Lasso, it’s that managing football club sponsors can be tricky. And so it is for England’s Arsenal, which was beaten on Saturday by Brentford in the first round of the Premier League. “We just must NOT excuse or accept mediocrity,” tweeted Rwandan President Paul Kagame. His government has (controversially) been a sponsor since 2018.
And the Indian cricket side had a new team member when ‘Jarvo 69’ made it onto the field on Saturday during the Test match against England. Dressed in cricket whites and ordering field changes, it took security a moment to work it out. At least the players found the funny side…
