Colonel Sanders’ recipe of 11 secret herbs and spices is one of the best-kept secrets in the food industry, but a new UK documentary has given an insight into how the recipe for KFC’s iconic fried chicken is kept under wraps. According to one team member interviewed by Channel 5’s Secrets of the Fast Food Giants, the recipe is kept in a vault in Kentucky, and “only 2 or 3 people” in the world know what it is. The company is so serious about guarding the secret that the factories that make the spice blend don’t even know what goes into it – 2 factories make half each, and it’s combined by the company. Given all the secretiveness, the insider didn’t reveal what’s in the mix, but plenty of copycat recipes are available online for fans to try out.
