An Olympics update + the closing ceremony

Medals rained down for Australia again yesterday as our athletes turned in an equal best-ever performance at an Olympic Games. Two more gold medals came our way thanks to skateboarder Keegan Palmer and kayak duo Tom Green and Jean van der Westhuyzen. The Kookaburras settled for silver in a heart-stopping hockey game against Belgium last night. And there were bronze medals for platform diver/4-time Olympian Melissa Wu and decathlete Ash Moloney (with some help from teammate Cedric Dubler…). Missing out on a medal last night were the Matildas [insert sad face emoji…]. But there are more chances with our beach volleyball women in the golden game mid-today, and we have contenders on the track, in the field, and in the ring. And on Sunday, all good things must come to an end. Like the rest of the Games, the closing ceremony will be toned down due to COVID restrictions, and it has the theme of ‘Worlds We Share’ – albeit at an appropriate social distance… Check the Tokyo Sprint at the end of the email for more updates…
