Simmons in doubt

Reports say it’s unlikely Aussie basketball star Ben Simmons will be heading to the Tokyo Olympics. The 2-time NBA All-Star, who has played for the Philadelphia 76ers since 2016, has had a tough week (and it’s only Wednesday…). A crushing defeat to the Atlanta Hawks in the Eastern Conference semi-finals, thanks in part to his poor performance, has drawn speculation he will sit out the Tokyo Games to focus on “skills development”. Simmons hasn’t played for Australia since the 2014 World Champs and he set basketball fans’ hearts racing earlier this year when he put his very long arm up to play in the Olympics. His absence will make it harder for the Aussies to get amongst the final 3 this year – that’s the hope after coming 4th in Rio in 2016. According to Basketball Australia, Simmons’ withdrawal has not been confirmed.
