The thousand-goal footy returned

You might have seen the incredible footage of tens of thousands of footy fans streaming onto the Sydney Cricket Ground last Friday night during the Sydney Swans and Geelong match. For those not down with the AFL, that happened after Swans full-forward Lance ‘Buddy’ Franklin kicked his 1,000th career goal becoming the 6th player in the league’s history to achieve the milestone. Swans fan Alex Wheeler claimed the ball after it flew through the goalposts – most spectators were too busy filming it, and he took it home for safekeeping. And after an appeal from the club, he returned the ball to Franklin yesterday, claiming some kit and a 5-year membership to the ground for his troubles.
