Feeling the heat
More than 13,000 researchers are calling for urgent action to tackle climate change after a new study found 16 of Earth’s 31 ‘vital signs’ are deteriorating. “There is growing evidence we are getting close to or have already gone beyond tipping points associated with important parts of the Earth system,” Oregon State University’s William Ripple said. Reports like this are coming thick and fast as November’s United Nations Climate Change Conference in Glasgow approaches. And European, British and American diplomats in Oz are said to be strategising to get bigger carbon-cutting commitments from Oz ahead of that big meeting. You might remember that PM Morrison seemed to be edging towards a net zero emissions by 2050 target before the Nationals made Barnaby Joyce deputy PM, who’s not on board. And that’s left Morrison more exposed than a prop guy up a ladder…
