Afghans told to fight for it

That was what US President Joe Biden urged the Afghan Government to do. “They’ve got to fight for themselves,” he said yesterday, adding that the US will keep its commitments. The United Nations says more than 1,000 civilians have been killed, and hundreds of thousands have fled their homes due to the recent fighting between the Taliban and government forces. The Taliban now has control of 65% of Afghanistan and 9 of the country’s 34 provincial capitals – and they are positioned to take more. That could include the nation’s capital with reports saying US intelligence believes Kabul could fall within 3 months. Afghanistan’s President Ashraf Ghani is in a terrible position… He has resorted to seeking help from troublesome regional warlords, and he is appealing to civilians to defend the nation against the Islamist militants. #SquizShortcuts
