Hurricane Henri skims the Big Apple

The storm heading towards America’s East Coast had been downgraded to a tropical storm by the time it made landfall near Westerly, Rhode Island this morning, north of New York. Packing 100km/hour winds, Henri has cut power to homes from New Jersey to Maine and is expected to bring more heavy rain and coastal flooding to the region. In preparation, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo declared a state of emergency – one of his last acts as the state’s leader before leaving over misconduct claims. And legendary crooner Barry Manilow was cut off mid-song when a Saturday night concert in Central Park was scuttled as rain set in. Henri is expected to visit Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine before heading out to sea later today.
