Forty minutes to an hour transpired between when officers first encountered the 18yo gunman and when he was shot at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. Video footage posted to social media shows distraught parents outside the school, waiting for police to enter. Some had to be held back because they wanted to go in themselves to stop the shooting. Texas Department of Public Safety spokesperson Chris Olivarez says they are working to “gather the facts” to establish a concrete timeline. While the shooter was barricaded in a classroom, the school were evacuated. “We’re trying to preserve any further loss of life … We cannot have individuals going into that school, especially if they’re not armed,” Olivarez said. Details of the 21 victims have been released, and US President Joe Biden says he will visit in the coming days.
