Zelensky calls for peace
Given a bunch of global bigwigs are tied up in Italy, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky might have some difficulty getting a lot of eyes on his Global Peace Summit event in Switzerland this weekend… Leaders from 90 countries out of the 160 invited have RSVP’d – but US President Joe Biden (the main one Zelensky wanted to see) will send Veep Kamala Harris in his place. NDIS Minister Bill Shorten will also be there repping Oz… As for what’s on the agenda, Zelensky will lay out his plan to end the war in Ukraine – which involves the full withdrawal of Russian troops and accountability for any war crimes Russia’s accused of. Just on that, prosecutors this week accused Russia of using deliberate starvation tactics during its 85-day siege of Mariupol, in Ukraine’s south-east, in the early days of the war. Those accusations have gone to the International Criminal Court for review.
