Back to school with COVID
That sound you can hear is parents getting their kids back to school in NSW, Victoria, the ACT, South Oz, and Western Oz… And with Omicron still doing the rounds, it’s not as straightforward as it has been in the past. That even includes if you factor in a lunchbox surprise that’s been fermenting in the school bag for 6 weeks… Different jurisdictions are doing different things to get kids into the classroom while minimising the spread of COVID. What is the same across the country is many parents are concerned about keeping their kids safe. That’s understandable, epidemiologist Meru Sheel says, because it’s “the first time people are accepting and coming to terms with the fact that we have community transmission.” A good round-up of the experts’ advice is here. Yesterday, Queensland detailed its back-to-school plan sans twice-weekly rapid tests. The 2 states that continue to report 10,000-plus COVID cases each day – NSW and Victoria – are leaning on RATs to keep things on track. Best wishes if this is on your plate today…
