Tigers lose top coach
But it’s fair to say that Damien Hardwick -Richmond’s 3-times AFL premiership-winning coach – leaves behind a rich legacy… The 50yo was the longest-serving current coach in the AFL after joining the Tigers in 2010, and he built the club that had forgotten how to win into a fierce contender. At an emotional press conference yesterday, Hardwick said he’d leave immediately after realising that after 14 years, “it just all became a little bit too much”. His resignation came out of the blue to many, but reports say Hardwick’s players knew he was burnt out. There’s already lots of speculation over who will take his coaching whistle. And, with Richmond currently sitting 14th on the ladder, at least one über-fan will want the new coach named toot sweet…
