Former NRL player Jarryd Hayne has been found guilty of sexual assault by a jury in the NSW District Court after they deliberated for more than a week. It ends the 3rd trial focused on the allegations against the 35yo former footy star. To recap: Hayne was accused of assaulting a woman in Newcastle after the NRL grand final in 2018. The woman (who hasn’t been named) says she met Hayne on Instagram, and after some racy messaging over a couple of weeks, he came to her home. She said she didn’t consent, but he has maintained that what happened between them was consensual, despite her significant injuries. Before this guilty verdict, Hayne’s 1st trial resulted in a hung jury, and he was convicted at his 2nd and served 9 months in jail before he was released on appeal, that led to the 3rd trial. He was allowed to return home ahead of another hearing on Thursday.
