Winning ways with a javelin

Good on ya, Kelsey-Lee Barber – she has joined Cathy Freeman as the only Australians to successfully defend a world athletics title. She claimed that incredible achievement on Saturday when she threw her javelin an almighty 66.91m at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, to win gold. Barber also joins Cathy Freeman, Jana Pittman and Sally Pearson as the only Aussies who have won more than one gold medal at the World Championships. “I’ll be honest in saying I wanted to do it, I’ve wanted it for a really long time. It’s part of my dreams within this sport,” she said. Also on the winners’ list is Jonas Vingegaard – he’s taken out the 2022 Tour De France overnight. “It means everything to me,” he said. Australia’s top finisher was Nick Schultz, who came in 23rd.
