Louisiana swelters in Ida’s aftermath

1000 (1)

At least 4 people are confirmed dead, and millions of Louisianans remain without electricity and running water after Hurricane Ida crossed the coast on Monday morning our time. Some dramatic before-and-after pics are here. There’s no clear idea about when things might be restored after Ida’s 240km/hour winds left more than a million homes and businesses in southeast Louisiana – including all of New Orleans – without power. Officials have told evacuees that it may not be safe to return to their homes for days. And restoring power could take weeks… Adding to the misery is the humid late-summer heat reaching into the 40Cs in recent days. And a nighttime curfew for all of New Orleans was ordered on Tuesday to reduce looting in the city. “This is definitely feeling like Katrina,” said one resident.
