Queensland hands down the plan
Just in time for Santa, Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says fully vaccinated travellers with a negative COVID test will be allowed to enter the Sunshine State without needing the quarantine from 17 December. That’s when 80% of residents aged 16yo and over are expected to be double jabbed. If that target is reached earlier, border restrictions could be brought forward. But if it’s not reached, Palaszczuk said the date will not be pushed back. Her message to her state’s residents: “This is your last opportunity, your last chance to get vaccinated.” Queensland’s rates of vaccination are trailing other states. As of yesterday, 56.9% of those eligible are fully vaccinated, and 72.5% have had at least one dose. Some experts say that being a non-COVID state and not having a reopening date means many haven’t seen the rush to get vaxxed.
