Say it ain’t snow

Whether you’ve seen the images or tried to ski down a patchy slope, you’d know this snow season has been one of the worst on record in Oz… Experts say climate change has resulted in a long-term decline in the depth and duration of snowfalls in Australia, and a new study has found the same problem is also facing the Northern Hemisphere. The research published in the Nature Climate Change journal projected that 53% of European ski resorts would be at very high risk of reduced snow supply, even if temperatures rise less than 2C above pre-industrial levels. And if we come under 4C of global warming, 98% of resorts would be under threat. Many ski resorts, including those in Australia, rely on artificial snow to boost supplies, but researchers say the water and energy-intensive exercise isn’t a solution. At least there’s always grass skiing
