Aunty settles the bill
Which means taxpayers will pay the $79,000 settlement plus costs that ABC journo Louise Milligan has agreed with federal Liberal MP Andrew Laming. To refresh your memory, Laming will quit politics at the next election after allegations emerged that he harassed 2 women online. Following that, Nine broadcast claims he took an inappropriate photo of a Brisbane woman while she stocked a fridge at work. He said the picture was fine, and police agreed. But Milligan tweeted about what he did amounting to ‘upskirting’, ie a criminal offence. “No one should be subjected to this type of harassment and character assassination without recourse,” Laming said of his decision to sue Milligan for defamation. Despite the ABC not publishing her tweets and the fact it was not sued by Laming, the national broadcaster will cover the bill saying it didn’t want a drawn out fight between the pollie and one of its prominent journos. “Why?” Liberal Senator/thorn in ABC’s side James McGrath asked yesterday.
