Forbes braces for a flood record

Residents of Forbes, NSW have been ordered to evacuate as it faces its 2nd major flood in as many weeks – and this time, it’s likely to be the biggest in its history. The Lachlan River rose faster than expected after huge amounts of water spilt from the Wyangala Dam near Cowra after heavy rain. In total, there are 17 flood warnings in place across 25 locations in the state. Yesterday, Premier Dominic Perrottet said 14 aircraft, 100 Defence personnel, and emergency workers from New Zealand, Singapore and the US were assisting with rescue efforts, mainly in the Central West. The State Emergency Service said it’s been one of the biggest operations in NSW’s history, performing 222 rescues and receiving 909 requests for help in the 24 hours to yesterday morning.
