Melbourne jolts awake
Did you feel it? That’s going to be the only conversation in Melbourne this morning after a 3.8 magnitude earthquake in Sunbury, 40 km northwest of the CBD, sent ripples across parts of the city. According to Geosciences Australia, the quake struck at 11:41pm on Sunday night, with Melburnians reporting being jolted awake by the tremor. There are even reports that the earthquake was felt in Hobart and Bendigo. At the time of writing (before 6am, Australian eastern time) there wasn’t clear information about any damage. The last earthquake to be felt in Melbourne, in 2021, was a magnitude 5.9 and had an epicentre 130 km away. That quake caused the facade of a building to collapse.
