Former Project host Lisa Wilkinson is being sued for defamation by former Liberal staffer Bruce Lehrmann – this morning, it’s been revealed that she will rely on a defence of truth relating to claims made in her Logie-winning interview with Brittany Higgins in February 2021. That means she will seek to prove he assaulted Higgins in a ministerial office of Parliament House in 2019. She will also argue that Lehrmann was not identified in the interview and that he was given ample opportunity to put his side of the story after he was contacted 3 times for comment. Lehrmann, who has consistently maintained his innocence, says he could easily have been identified in the report and that Wilkinson acted recklessly. He is also suing Network 10, along with News Corp and its journalist Samantha Maiden over an interview with Higgins published on the same day as Wilkinson’s report. Maiden’s defence has not been filed yet.
