A new leader for Twitter

Self-described ‘Chief Twit’ Elon Musk has named former US television ad boss Linda Yaccarino as the new Twitter CEO. Tweeting the latest on Saturday, he said Yaccarino will “focus primarily on business operations”, freeing him up to work on “product design and new technology” as executive chairman/chief technology officer. The hire comes 6 months after Musk bought the social media platform for US$44 billion. While the business was struggling financially before the takeover, ad sales have plummeted since – and reports say Musk is under pressure to get focused on his other companies, including Tesla and SpaceX. For her part, Yaccarino says she’s inspired by Musk’s “vision to create a brighter future”. Described as a “velvet hammer” for her tough negotiating skills, tech experts say she could be a good fit for the social media company. And Musk might even be able to stop sleeping in the office now…
