Lehrmann defamation case back in court
The Federal Court will decide today whether former Liberal staffer Bruce Lehrmann can proceed with his defamation case against Network Ten and News Corp and journos Lisa Wilkinson and Samantha Maiden. Lehrmann claims his reputation was harmed in their 2021 coverage of allegations he assaulted his then-colleague Brittany Higgins in 2019. The case is under a cloud because Lehrmann filed his lawsuit after the one-year limitation period (aka the allowed time for a complainant to take legal action). If Lehrmann convinces the court to extend the limitation period and it goes to trial, he will be called to give evidence. Reports say Higgins would also be likely to appear.
