Queensland’s economy is the strongest in the country as it scoops the cream off the surge in interstate migration during the pandemic. That’s according to CommSec’s latest State of the States economic report, which has put the Sunshine State at the top for the first time. Chief Economist Craig James says “solid mining, energy and tourism sectors” also helped make Queensland #1, pushing Tasmania into 2nd place. The ranking is determined by comparing annual growth rates across 8 key indicators like retail spending, unemployment, and housing finance. South Oz came in 3rd on the back of solid construction growth, while NSW and Victoria tied in 4th place, ahead of the ACT, WA and the NT.
