Top films crowned at Cannes
French director Justine Triet became the 3rd woman to win the Cannes Film Festival’s top prize – the Palme d’Or – with her film Anatomy of a Fall on Saturday. French broadcaster MK2 Films described it as a “Hitchcockian procedural thriller” that follows a wife accused of her husband’s murder. The next highest award – the Grand Prix (and no it’s not car related…) – went to Zone of Interest, a film by British director Jonathan Glazer about a family living next to Auschwitz. A full list of winners is here, but a special shoutout to the festival’s unofficial ‘Palm Dog’ award for dog actors… A border collie named Messi stood out this year among “a veritable tsunami of dog performances” – he received praise (and hopefully a treat) for his “range of skills and emotions” as he played ‘Snoop’ in Anatomy of a Fall. A very clever boy indeed…
