Siobhan’s weekend recommendations

IMG_9848

Let’s pretend it’s almost the weekend…what would you be putting in Friday Lites for Squizers to cook/watch/read?

Ooh I love cooking and chilling out at home on a Friday night so I would definitely be putting in an awesome cookie recipe like this one from the New York Times…

Then I’d be settling down to watch an episode of one of my favourite shows called Baby on Netflix. It’s an Italian series about a group of posh high school kids in Rome (bear with me) who end up getting involved with the underworld when two of the girls decide to become escorts. It sounds really dodgy and I doubt many people have seen it, but it’s really stylish, gritty and engaging and not at all exploitative so I can’t recommend it highly enough. It’s also great for the Roman scenery if you’re hanging out for a trip to Europe like I am!

And finally I’d recommend kicking back with Committed by Elizabeth Gilbert. I love pretty much everything she has written but this book in particular is excellent. I read it before I got married as I was having a lot of the same thoughts as she explores about how we reconcile ourselves with the concept of marriage in the modern day, when for so long it has been used as a means to reinforce the patriarchy. Gilbert wrote it after Eat, Pray, Love when she had to come to terms with whether she could face the idea of getting married again and so went on a deep dive into the history and traditions of matrimony from all over the world. So it’s a fascinating read because you learn so much along the way about different cultures and philosophical questions about what it means to be manacled to another person.
