Aussies are fitter, but veggies remain hard to stomach

Those are 2 of the main takeouts from a new report from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, which compares the health outcomes of Aussie men and women over 5 years up to 2022. Life expectancy is rising, with the average Aussie woman now living to 85.4yo while the average bloke will reach 81.3yo. The leading cause of death for all Aussies aged 15-44yo is suicide. Coronary heart disease is the main killer of men aged 45-74yo, and for 46-64yo women, it’s breast cancer. The number of Aussie women considered obese remained sedentary at 60%, while 75% of blokes fell into that category – up 5% from 2017. Despite that, 65% of men are exercising (+15%) compared to 59% of women (+40%). And on veggie consumption, 4% of men hit the recommended 5 serves a day, compared to 13% of women.
