Two glasses of wine is your daily dose of sugar

Scroll on past if you quaffed a couple of vinos last night… But in some unfortunate news, a new study from the UK has revealed that 2 glasses of wine is enough to reach the recommended daily sugar limit. The UK’s Alcohol Health Alliance commissioned an independent lab to analyse popular wine brands of all colours which found some bottles had up to 59g of sugar. The UK’s national health service recommends a maximum of 30g of ‘free sugars’ per day (the WHO says no more than 50g, or 12 tsp). So at 2 glasses, you’re getting up there. The chair of the body which commissioned the study, Professor Sir Ian Gilmore, said it’s “absurd” that the volume of sugar isn’t listed on the bottle, given that wine “fuels obesity and cancer”. But not to fear, sugar-free wine now exists. Great.
