Picasso goes digital
The heirs of famed Spanish artist Pablo Picasso are the latest to jump on the non-fungible token (NFT) bandwagon, revealing plans to auction off 1,010 digital art pieces. Picasso’s granddaughter Marina and her son Florian unveiled only a glimpse of the item to be featured – it’s a large ceramic bowl the artist made in 1958, and it has never been viewed publicly before. They’ll auction the actual bowl in March, but the NFTs on offer will include images of the bowl and music put together by Florian, songwriter John Legend and rapper Nas. The artist’s great-grandson hinted the sale could be the first of many to feature the family’s extensive collection. “We’re trying to build a bridge between the NFT world and the fine art world,” he said. Let’s hope they have more luck than Melania Trump…
