If you’ve ever toyed with the idea of getting your friends over for a classy dinner party… before quickly deciding you can’t be bothered, you’re not alone. A UK survey has found people are increasingly opting out of formal gatherings and instead want to rock up at their mates’ places in their trackie daks, ready for a takeaway binge – or even just a packaged microwave meal. About 80% of the 2,000 people surveyed even thought the phrase ‘dinner party’ was old school. “I once served an avocado for a starter, baked beans on toast for a main and a bowl of ice cream for pudding. It took me all of 10 minutes,” said one respondent. Offt… It’s a shame for anyone hoping to recreate the well-cooked fish recipes that Israeli scientists reckon our early ancestors whipped up 780,000 years ago – we’re 99% sure microwaves weren’t around then…
