Don’t worry, the moon will be fine… Part of a rocket that has been floating around space for years is set to collide with the big cheese tonight (11.26pm AEDT) at 9,300km/hr. Scientists expect it to make a crater on the lunar surface. That won’t be visible from Earth as it’s set to occur on the far side of the moon, but NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter will take some pics. The rocket is believed to have come from a 2014 Chinese lunar mission, which China denies. Space junk stuck in low-Earth orbit is relatively easy to track, but no space agencies currently track it further afield. That could soon change after Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak launched a new venture this week to track rogue objects in space to help avert disastrous collisions.
