THE SQUIZ
As beloved/retired Aussie tennis star Ash Barty received yet another honour – this time as NAIDOC’s Person of the Year for her achievements on the court and with Indigenous youth off it – Nick Kyrgios had one of the biggest wins of his career, but it was not without controversy…

IS HE EVER WITHOUT CONTROVERSY?
How you answer that probably depends on whether you’re a Kyrgios fan or not… But look, yesterday morning’s match against Stefanos Tsitsipas (aka the Aussie’s former doubles partner) was full-on. The world #5 player won the first set, but Kyrgios stepped up the skill and the antics, taking it in 4. The Aussie’s main gripe to the umpire, the supervisor and anyone who would listen was about a shot Tsitsipas hit into the crowd as his 2nd set unravelled. No one was hit, but Kyrgios was adamant that Tsitsipas should default the match. Tsitsipas called him a bully, saying “he has a very evil side to him.” Kyrgios was having none of it, saying “I’m actually one of the most liked. I’m set. He’s not liked. Let’s just put that there.” Some well-travelled commentators said it was one of the most toxic games of tennis they’d seen.

WHAT’S NEXT?
We’re getting to the pointy end of the iconic grand slam… Kyrgios faces American Brandon Nakashima for a spot in his first Wimbledon quarter-final in 8 years. That match is tonight, and pundits are eagerly waiting to see if he’ll advance or whether the chaos he creates will get him, too. But he’s not the only Aussie doing well… Nineteenth-seed Alex de Minaur is also through to the 4th round, and if he and Kyrgios win their matches, they’ll meet in the quarter-final. Can you imagine… Jason Kubler and Ajla Tomljanovic are also week 2 starters, which is unexpected – even by family members… It’s the first time since 1999 that we’ve had 4 through to the business end of the tournament. They all play tonight – fingers crossed…
