Paying the price to WFH

Google employees in the US could see their pay cut if they opt to work from home permanently. The tech giant rolled out a new calculator to show what workers will be paid depending on where they are. The general gist is Googlers who move out of the big cities will see a pay cut, while employees who live in New York City and work remotely won’t see any reductions. And they aren’t the only ones doing it… Other big tech companies like Microsoft, Facebook and Twitter have also offered less pay for employees based in locations where it is less expensive to live. Pundits say it’s a move to get employees back to their desks after the pandemic forced workers to go remote. Google had previously wanted people in the office, but in May, the tech giant relaxed its rules. So much for the flexible work revolution…
