Yes, he’s said that a few times, but in a new interview with America’s 60 Minutes, he’s said ‘yes’ to a question about whether US forces would defend Taiwan on the ground if it were invaded by China, which claims it as its own territory. Some noted the contradiction with America’s longstanding ‘One China’ policy, which does not recognise Taiwan as a country. Still, White House officials reiterated that there’s no change in approach.
