Digging in for a long war in Ukraine

“We must prepare for the fact that it could take years. We must not let up in supporting Ukraine,” says NATO boss Jens Stoltenberg. The military alliance’s Secretary-General says the financial costs will be high, “not only for military support, also because of rising energy and food prices.” UK PM Boris Johnson delivered the same message after visiting Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv on Friday. “The worry that we have is that a bit of Ukraine-fatigue is starting to set in around the world. It is very important to show that we are with them for the long haul, and we are giving them that strategic resilience that they need,” he said. The European Union is taking steps to bring Ukraine into the fold by recommending that it become a candidate to join the bloc.
