Déjà vu for Trump on defamation
After winning her civil defamation and battery case against Donald Trump earlier this month, magazine columnist E Jean Carroll is seeking further damages from the former US president. A day after he was ordered to pay Carroll US$5 million in damages, Trump repeated his defamatory claims in a town hall event hosted by CNN, claiming she had “made up” the story about him. In a new legal filing, Carroll is looking to amend her initial defamation lawsuit from 2019 to include those fresh remarks and other comments Trump made following the verdict on his Truth Social app. Trump hasn’t responded yet, but he has a bit on his plate right now… Reports say the man considered his key rival for the Republican presidential nomination, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, is set to officially throw his hat in the ring on Wednesday night US time via a Twitter Spaces conversation with Elon Musk.
