The Western world watches and waits…
US President Joe Biden says his country had no involvement in Yevgeny Prigozhin’s attempted mutiny in Russia over the weekend, echoing what the rest of the West has said about it. US officials are keeping close tabs on the fallout in Russia, but Biden says “it’s still too early to reach a definitive conclusion” about what might happen next. Meanwhile, Prigozhin has arrived in Belarus, according to Belarusian president Alexander Lukashenko, and has been offered an abandoned military base for his mercenary forces. Speaking of the Wagner fighters, the Kremlin’s now given 3 options to Prigozhin’s troops: sign a contract with the Russian military, return to their families, or follow in Prigozhin’s Belarus move. And while Biden and others wait to see what happens in Russia and how it affects the war in Ukraine, experts are watching for China’s reaction. As Russia’s key ally, there is speculation the uprising has been “unsettling” for Beijing.
