The first search in nearly a decade for missing British girl Madeline McCann has been launched at a dam near where she disappeared in Portugal. In one of history’s most publicised missing person cases, McCann was 3yo when she vanished from her family’s holiday apartment at the Praia da Luz resort in 2007. No one has been charged with her disappearance, but German prisoner Christian Brueckner was formally named a suspect last year, though he denies any involvement in her disappearance. The latest search is being undertaken by Portugal’s Judicial Police on behalf of German authorities, who assume McCann is dead. The dam, located 40km away from Praia da Luz, was initially searched by Portuguese authorities in 2008 after a tip-off, and it’s unclear why it’s being searched again, though Brueckner was known to spend time there. Experts say it will be a “difficult” process that’s expected to take 2 days.
